Greg’s Best Jack Yet
Greg leaned back in his chair on the veranda, a weathered bloke with a twinkle in his eyes and a no-nonsense attitude. In front of him, a freshly poured glass of his homemade Jack-style bourbon caught the last golden rays of the arvo sun.
He gave it a swirl, watching the legs crawl down the inside of the glass like a good drop should.
“Righto, mate,” he said, setting the bottle down with a thud. “This here’s me latest batch. Global Flavors Jack Bourbon, done in the T500, aged on oak for a month, then — he lifted a small bottle and gave it a shake — five drops of this beauty! Global Flavors Liquid Smoke. Just enough to give it that proper charred barrel kick.”
His mate, Terry, a lifelong Jack Daniels drinker, gave him a sideways look. “Reckon it’s any good, old man?” he smirked, picking up the glass.
Greg R let out a chuckle. “If it ain’t, I’ll drink me own boots.”
Terry took a sip. He swished it around, let it sit, then swallowed. His eyes flicked up. He took another sip. Then a bigger one.
“Bloody hell,” he said, staring at the glass. “That’s Jack.”

Greg grinned. “Course it is. But it ain’t from some factory in Tennessee. That’s Global Flavors Jack Bourbon, homemade proper. You pay for the brand, mate. I make the spirit.” He knocked back his own glass, smacking his lips.
“That liquid smoke’s the trick. Gives it that deep, smoky oak like the real deal. You wouldn’t know it ain’t from a barrel if I didn’t tell ya.”
Terry took another long sip, then stared at the bottle. “Bugger me. I reckon this is better than the real stuff.”

Greg’s chest swelled. “’Course it is. No corners cut, no watered-down corporate crap. Just good ingredients and a proper still. You gotta get yourself into this, mate. Once you start makin’ your own, you’ll never go back to buying.”
Terry swirled the glass again, looking thoughtful. “Might have to, mate. This… this is the best Jack I’ve ever had.”
Greg sat back, folding his arms. “Told ya. Now pour us another, and we’ll call this the first round of your new education.”
